The Catholic Afterlife
The Christian religion has an infamous view on the afterlife; Heaven and Hell. The way it works here is that your body holds a soul, which contains everything that makes you. Once you die, your soul leaves your body, and with nothing to keep it running, the body becomes corrupt and starts to decompose. The soul is immortal and cannot be killed. Your soul is then judged by God himself. If you have committed many sins in your life, you are damned to hell. If this happens, you are immediately sent to hell.
Hell
In the Bible hell is mostly described as a fiery pit where all love, care, and peacefulness goes to die. The Bible gives vicious descriptions of just how tormenting and frightening this dreadful place is. Here are some examples:
"Upon the wicked He will rain snares; Fire and brimstone and burning wind will be the portion of their cup" (Psalm 11:6)
"For the LORD will execute judgment by fire And by His sword on all flesh, And those slain by the LORD will be many." (Isaiah 66:16)
"And the devil who deceived them was thrown into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are also; and they will be tormented day and night forever and ever." (Revelation 20:10)
Heaven
Heaven, on the other hand, is the complete opposite. The Bible describes Heaven in a different way than it does with hell. Hell is described as the way it is to teach people what happens when you sin. Heaven is described so that it is projected as the ideal place for anyone who goes there. God and Jesus both say that "good things come in heaven". Heaven is ideally created in your image once you get there, so it is projected differently for everyone. As such, the Bible talks of how God and Jesus react and talk about Heaven to everyone.
"At that time some Pharisees came to Jesus and said to him, "Leave this place and go somewhere else. Herod wants to kill you." He replied, "Go tell that fox, 'I will drive out demons and heal people today and tomorrow, and on the third day I will reach my goal.' In any case, I must keep going today and tomorrow and the next day--for surely no prophet can die outside Jerusalem!" (Luke 13:31-33)
"These words are trustworthy and true. The Lord, the God of the spirits of the prophets, sent his angel to show his servants the things that must soon take place." (Revelation 22:3)
"There will be no more night. They will not need the light of a lamp or the light of the sun, for the Lord God will give them light. And they will reign for ever and ever." (Revelation 22:5)
